Invisible character to copy and paste

Copy a blank character or generate blank text in one click. Every character is grouped by where it actually works — not just by its technical name — and verified against the official Unicode database.

Blank text generator

The classic search — blank space copy and paste — is solved right here: pick a character and an amount, and the button puts it on your clipboard. It also covers the times you need the same blank character pasted many times in a row.

Invisible character library

What we verify: each character’s Unicode properties (category, behaviour under whitespace trimming, byte size), automatically on every publish. What we cannot guarantee: whether a particular app accepts it today — platforms change their rules without notice. If one stops working, tell us.

Safe for usernames #

Unicode does not class these as spaces (four are letters, one is a symbol), so automatic whitespace cleanup leaves them alone. Whether a given app accepts them is decided by that app’s own rules.

Truly invisible #

Zero width: they take up no visible space at all. For hiding text or separating characters.

Spaces with width #

They occupy visible width, but most forms strip them out when you save.

Check what you copied

Paste here to confirm the invisible character really made it to your clipboard. The same area works as an inspector for any text: the counter separates the visible characters from the invisible ones.

Each invisible character shows up below as a small tag with its Unicode code — so you can see exactly what a text contains, even when nothing is visible.

What is an invisible character?

An invisible character is a real Unicode codepoint that draws nothing on screen. It is not an image or a formatting trick: these are legitimate letters and spaces from the Unicode standard, originally created for scripts like Korean and Mongolian, or to control how words join and break. Like any other letter, they can be copied, pasted and saved in a username, a bio or a message.

When you paste one into a form, the app receives text that technically is not empty — even though nothing appears. That is what makes a name look blank, a message arrive seemingly empty, or a layout keep a gap the app would normally collapse.

People reach this page with many different words for the same thing — blank text, empty character, invisible letter, blank space — but they all point to one family of Unicode codepoints. What matters is not the name: it is picking the right character for the field you are about to paste it into.

How to copy and paste a blank space

  1. Choose how many characters you need in the generator and press «Generate and copy». One is enough for most uses.
  2. Prefer a specific codepoint? Tap it in the library: each button copies exactly one character and confirms which one.
  3. Paste it wherever you need it: long-press the field and choose «Paste» on a phone, or press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac) on a computer.
  4. Verify in the test area that the character survived the trip: the counter tells you how many invisible characters your clipboard actually holds.

On Windows you can also type a no-break space with Alt+0160 in many programs. A generator is still the more reliable route: you always know exactly which codepoint you are using and how many bytes it weighs — and the test area proves it before you spend a rename or hit send.

Long blank text

One character handles a nickname, but some jobs call for long blank text: a large gap in a bio, a message body that scrolls past «nothing», or a field filled entirely with emptiness. The generator at the top does this in one step — type the amount (up to 1000 characters at once) and press «Generate and copy».

Two things decide whether a long block survives. The first is weight: almost every invisible character costs 3 bytes, so a hundred of them weigh about 300 bytes — in fields with a limit, the generator's counter warns you before the app rejects it. The second is automatic cleanup: consecutive width-spaces tend to be merged or stripped on save. If your block vanishes, generate the same length with the Hangul Filler or the Braille Pattern Blank instead — Unicode does not class them as whitespace, so cleanup leaves them alone.

The three kinds of invisible characters

Not all invisible characters behave the same way — that is why so many attempts fail. This tool groups them by the thing that actually matters: where they work.

Safe for usernames. Unicode does not class any of these as whitespace: four are letters (the Hangul fillers) and one is a symbol (the Braille Pattern Blank). That is why whitespace trimming leaves them alone — and the four letters also satisfy fields that demand alphabetic content. The best known is the Hangul Filler (U+3164) — the character behind most blank gaming nicknames, with its own reference page here. No category can guarantee what a particular app finally decides.

Truly invisible. Zero width: they occupy no visible space whatsoever. Unicode instructs applications to render nothing in their place. Use them to hide text, split letters without showing it, or stop two words from separating at a line break.

Spaces with width. Visible gaps of different sizes, from the Hair Space up to the Ideographic Space used in Japanese and Chinese. Most forms strip them just like a normal space, so use them inside a text — not to make a field look empty.

Why is your invisible character rejected?

If you pasted a blank character and the app refused it, one of these three mechanisms is almost always the reason:

  1. The app trims whitespace. Most forms run an automatic cleanup that removes spaces at the start and end of the text. Everything in the «spaces with width» group disappears in that cleanup — and so does the Zero-Width No-Break Space (U+FEFF), invisible or not. The fix is a character from the «safe for usernames» group: to the app those are letters, and cleanup does not touch them.
  2. The field demands real content. Some validators check that the text contains at least one letter. The Hangul Filler answers this too: Unicode classes it as an alphabetic letter, so it satisfies the rule while showing nothing.
  3. You ran out of room. Field limits sometimes count bytes, not characters. Nearly every invisible character weighs 3 bytes in UTF-8 against 1 byte for a normal letter. If a name mysteriously will not fit, reduce the amount — the generator's byte counter shows exactly what your paste will weigh.

Where invisible characters are used

Discord. The number-one request in English: invisible nicknames, servers with blank channel names, and messages that arrive empty. Discord validates names its own way, so it has a dedicated page with the right characters.

Instagram. Bios and captions lose their empty lines when you publish. Placing an invisible character on the line keeps the break alive — and there is a tool that does it for you. For highlights without a name, see the highlights guide.

TikTok. A profile that shows no name needs a character the name field accepts as a letter. The steps and the honest failure cases are in the TikTok guide.

Fortnite and other games. Game name fields usually reject normal spaces, so a blank-looking nickname needs a letter-class character from the username-safe group. Each game validates its own way: verify with the test area first, and if a character stops working somewhere, write to contact@invisibleletters.com and we will document it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool free?

Completely: no sign-up, no limits, nothing to install. Everything runs inside your browser, and the text you copy or paste is never sent to any server.

Why does my invisible name get rejected?

Almost always because the chosen character is a space and the app strips it, or because the field requires a real letter. Use a character from the «safe for usernames» group and check the three failure mechanisms above.

Which character is best for game nicknames?

The Hangul Filler (U+3164): Unicode classes it as a letter, so it passes name validation. The quick-copy button in the generator hands you exactly one.

How can I see the invisible characters inside a text?

Paste the text into the test area on this page: the counter reports how many characters there are in total and how many of them are invisible, and each one is revealed as a tag with its code.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. These are standard Unicode codepoints and copy the same way on every modern system. The only variable is whether the destination app accepts them — and that depends on the platform, not on your phone.

Are invisible characters safe?

They are ordinary text characters, not executable code. The only practical risk is that an app rejects or strips them. On this page, all processing happens in your own browser — your privacy does not depend on us.
