Invisible character for Discord

A blank display name, a nickname nobody can read, a message that arrives empty — Discord allows all three, if you use a character its filters accept. These are the ones that pass.

These five are classed by Unicode as letters or symbols — not whitespace — which is exactly what name fields check for. One click copies one character:

Blank display name and server nickname

First, the honest part: since Discord moved to unique usernames, the username itself only accepts lowercase letters, digits and two punctuation marks — no invisible character will get through there, on any site. What you can blank out is everything people actually see:

  1. Display name — User Settings → Account → Display Name. Delete the text, paste the Hangul Filler (U+3164), save. Your profile now shows an empty name everywhere.
  2. Server nickname — open the server, tap your profile → Edit Server Profile → Nickname, and paste the character there. The blank name applies in that server only.

If saving fails, the field most likely got a real space from your clipboard instead — the test area above tells you what you are actually holding.

Messages that look empty

Discord refuses a message made of ordinary spaces — its cleanup strips them and finds nothing left to send. The Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) is the classic answer: Unicode classes it as a symbol, cleanup ignores it, and the message posts as a blank line. Stack several with line breaks between them and you get a tall empty block — a running joke format in many servers. Use it with judgment: what a friend finds funny once, a moderation bot may read as spam when repeated.

Channel names, categories and roles

Server owners use invisible characters as design tools: a category named with a single blank character reads as a clean separator in the sidebar, and a role with an invisible name adds spacing to a member list. Text channel names are the strict exception — Discord lowercases them and replaces most special characters with dashes, so results vary by character; voice channels accept them more freely. Test on a private server first, and keep a visible fallback name written down: an all-blank sidebar is impressive right up until you need to find the settings channel.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the blank name fail in the username field?

Because unique usernames only accept lowercase a–z, 0–9, underscore and period — by policy, not by trick. Blank names live in the display name and server nickname fields, which accept the full Unicode range.

Will an invisible name get me banned?

The characters are ordinary Unicode and using them in a name breaks no platform-wide rule we know of — but individual servers set their own rules, and some require readable names so moderators can address people. If a server asks you to be identifiable, be identifiable.

Which character is the most reliable?

The Hangul Filler (U+3164) for names, the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) for messages. When one stops working after an app update, its neighbours in the full character library usually still pass.
